The rising trend witnessed in the offer for Coonoor Tea Trade Association auctions continues this week with the volume of 17.33 lakh kg for Sale No: 18 on Thursday and Friday to be the highest so far this calendar, more than 1.46 lakh kg more than last week’s offer. Of this, 11.94 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 5.39 lakh kg to dust grade. As much as 16.10 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.28 lakh kg orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. Nearly 26 per cent of last week’s offer remained unsold for want of bidders at high prices. Only Homedale Estate entered the high-price bracket of ₹200 a kg among the CTC teas.
