Subdued demand from both Kerala and upcountry buyers impacted tea prices at the Kochi auctions, facilitating blenders to operate at the lower limit. The market in sale No 37 opened Rs 3 to Rs 5 lower, and prices declined further to the tune of Rs 5-10, and sometimes more. However, the decline was less for teas which came under the selection of AVT, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 6,54,703 and the average price realised was Rs 134.33. Exporters operated at lower levels. The quantity on offer in orthodox dust was low at 5,500 kg and exporters continued to be the major stakeholders.

In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched prices of Rs 127-180, mediums Rs 96-149 and plain grades Rs 90-102. In the leaf category, the market for select best Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox were firm and sometimes dearer. The quantity on offer was 1,45,844 kg and the average price realised was Rs 142.50.

In CTC leaf, the market for good liquoring brokens and Fannings was dearer. The arrivals were low and the quantity on offer was 34,500 kg. Monica SFD quoted best prices of Rs 180 in dust grades, while Chamraj FOP-Sup (Green Tea) in the leaf category was quoting at Rs 341.
