Subdued demand and low arrivals continue to impact prices of several tea varieties at Kochi auctions this week. In sale no 10, the quantity on offer in CTC dust was 8,19,000 kg.

The market for good liquoring teas barely remained steady and tended to ease by ₹1-3 a kg.

However, powdery grades of few popular marks appreciated in value. Medium and plainer varieties were steady to firm and sometimes dearer following quality, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

Exporters were selective and operated on medium and plainer varieties, while Kerala and upcountry buyers lent fair support.

In orthodox dust, the market for primary grades was dearer and the quantity on offer was 7,000 kg. In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched prices at ₹119-166, mediums quoted ₹97-133 and plain grades stood at ₹82-102.

In leaf category, the market for good liquoring Nilgiri brokens and Fannings in orhtodox grades barely remained steady. The quantity on offer was 116,000 kg.

Some straight line export enquiry noticed on select best high-growns. In CTC leaf, the market for good liquoring brokens and Fannings remained steady to firm and sometimes dearer. The quantity on offer was 58,000 kg.

Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹167 in dust varieties followed by Puduthottam SFD at ₹153. In leaf, Kodanaad STGFOP came to the top quoting ₹428 followed by Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) at ₹407.
