Amidst low arrivals, grainier tea varieties were dearer by ₹3 to ₹5 at the Kochi auctions following export enquiry.

However, there was some resistance on teas of ₹150 and above in sale no 8. These varieties were sometimes easier and witnessed some withdrawals, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

The quantity on offer in CTC dust was 6,96,500 kg, witnessing a drop compared to last week. There was subdued demand from leading blenders and upcountry buyers.

In orthodox dust, primary grades remained steady and others were lower. Exporters and upcountry buyers continued to be the major participants. The quantity on offer was 10,500 kg.

In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched 120-159, mediums quoted ₹111-145 and plain grades stood at 109-124.

In the leaf category, the market for Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox grades was firm to dearer, following quality. The quantity on offer was 1,38,000 kg.

In CTC leaf, good liquoring brokens and Fannings were firm to dearer. Exporters, upcountry and Kerala buyers operated on this particular variety. The quantity on offer was 69,500 kg.

In the dust varieties, Kallyar SFD quoted the best prices of ₹176, followed by Puduthottam SFD at ₹161. Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top in leaf grades quoting ₹391, followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson (Green Tea) at ₹290.
