Support from leading blenders coupled with strong demand lifted prices of almost all tea varieties at the Kochi auctions this week.

The market for CTC dust opened ₹2 to ₹4 dearer and 96 per cent of the stock on offer was sold. The quantity on offer in sale no 3 was 8,89,500 kg. There was better interest from exporters, while the upcountry demand was fair, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart &Figgis said.

In the Orthodox dust grades, the market was firm to dearer by ₹2 to ₹3 and the quantity on offer was 15,000 kg. Exporters continued to be the mainstay of the market.

In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹115-157, mediums quoted ₹109-126 and the plain grades stood at ₹105-111.

Prices in the leaf category also perked up, with the market for Orthodox leaf witnessing fair demand. Select best high-grown brokens, whole leaf and Fannings were firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 1,98,500 kg.

There was good demand for CTC leaf varieties, with 99 per cent on offer getting sold. The quantity on offer was 53,500 kg and the market was firm to dearer by ₹2 to ₹3 and sometimes more, following quality.

In the dust varieties, Monica SFD quoted the best price of ₹157, followed by Kallyar SFD at ₹152. In leaf, Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top, quoting ₹404, followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson (Green Tea) at ₹321.
