Turmeric gains as quality improves

Spot prices of both the varieties of turmeric increased at the markets of Erode on Thursday. The growers brought more than 1,000 bags of quality turmeric for sale and 75 per cent of them were sold. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, finger turmeric went for ₹5,659-8,541 a quintal; root variety for ₹5,219-7,527. Of the 1,900 bags offered, 780 were traded. At the Regulated Marketing Committee, the finger variety went for ₹7,091-8,410 a quintal and the root variety at ₹6,769-7,699.
