Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets on Monday as traders received some upcountry orders and bought quality turmeric. Almost all the new turmeric was sold and a few bags of old turmeric were sold. The traders also purchased from Nizamabad for their requirement, said Palanisamy, a trader. He said 4,000 bags including 900 bags of old turmeric arrived for sale. The Salem Hybrid finger turmeric increased by ₹100 a quintal and the local finger and root varieties were up ₹250 . At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the Salem Hybrid finger variety was sold at ₹5,255-8,500 a quintal; root variety at ₹4,900-8,259. The local new finger crop fetched ₹7,322-7,814 , root variety ₹6,579-7,099. Of the total arrival of 3,235 bags, 2,129 bags were sold.
