After weeks of seeing decreasing volume, a marginal rise was seen in the volume offered for Sale No: 11 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
In all, a volume of 9.53 lakh kg has been catalogued. This is some 24,000 kg more than last week’s offer. Planters contend that nearly half of the 586 hectares identified by the UPASI Tea Research Foundation are likely to have been affectedby frost .
Of the 9.53 lakh kg offered, as much as 8.55 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 98,000 kg, orthodox variety. In the leaf counter, only 60,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.78 lakh kg, CTC. Homedale Estate tea topped the entire auction last week at ₹271 a kg.
