Volume falls at tea auctions in Coonoor

A volume of 14.40 lakh kg has been catalogued for sale 22 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association to be held on Thursday and Friday.

This is as much as 2.42 lakh kg less than the volume offered for the previous sale.

Of the 14.40 lakh kg offered, as much as 13.20 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.20 lakh kg orthodox variety. In the leaf counter, only 72,000 kg belongs to Orthodox, while 9.18 lakh kg belongs to CTC. Among the dusts, only 48,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 4.02 lakh kg, CTC. In all, 9.90 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 4.50 lakh kg, Dust grades.

Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹70-80 a kg for plain Leaf grades and ₹150-172 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, they ranged ₹63-73 and for the best grades, ₹141-173.
