The Finance Ministry has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on saccharin imports from Indonesia. Based on the recommendation of the Designated Authority in the Commerce Ministry in March 2019, the revenue department has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty of $1,633.17 per tonne. This duty, unless revoked earlier, will be valid for five years.

Swati Petro Products Pvt Ltd had filed the petition seeking anti-dumping probe on saccharin imports from Indonesia.

Saccharin is a non-nutritive sweetener and is considered to be a low-calorie substitute for cane sugar. It is used in a variety of industries such as food and beverage, personal care products, table top sweeteners, electroplating brighteners, pharmaceuticals, etc. There are primarily two types of saccharin — soluble and insoluble. All forms of saccharin come within the scope of the present investigation.
