AP Transco will step up efforts to reduce the transmission and distribution losses currently estimated at 16.45 per cent. The State power utilities have embarked on short and long term programmes to improve services to the customers. The focus has been on bridging the demand-supply gap in view of the abnormal rise in power demand and mismatch. Assuming charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of AP Transco, Mr Hiralal Samariya, in a statement said it is a privilege to serve the power sector again after a gap of 6 years. He was informed that all time high peak demand of 11,972 MW was met during 2011-12. AP power utilities could supply 85,149 million units (mu) during 2011-12 as against the requirement of 91,730 mu. The deficit was 7.2 per cent against all India average shortage of 8.5 per cent. According to Transco, the deficit in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were estimated to be 10.5 per cent, 11.2 per cent, 16.7 per cent, 17 per cent and 11.3 per cent respectively.
