The Centre’s fiscal deficit during April-February 2010-11 worked out to be 68.6 per cent of the estimates compared with 92 per cent in the same period last year, showing improvement in the fiscal position.
In absolute terms, the fiscal deficit stood at Rs 2.75 lakh crore during April-February of the current fiscal against Rs 3.8 lakh crore in the same period last financial year (2009-10).
During the period, the net tax receipts of the Government stood at Rs 4.6 lakh crore and total expenditure at Rs 9.78 lakh crore, an official statement said.
The Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, in his 2011-12 Budget speech pegged the fiscal deficit for the current year at 5.1 per cent on the back of higher-than-expected realisation from auctioning of 3G and BWA spectrum, lower from 5.5 per cent or at Rs 3.81 lakh crore projected in the earlier Budget.
Non-tax revenue during the period stood at Rs 2.09 lakh crore, primarily on account of higher realisation from the auction of spectrum, which raked in about Rs 1.08 lakh crore.
