The annual average salary offered to students of the Indian Institute of Rural Development-Anand (IRMA) in the just-concluded placements is Rs 8 lakh , an increase of 34 per cent over that of last year.

In all, 125 offers were made by 33 organisations to the participants, IRMA said in a release here. Almost all of them were placed by the third day of the campus placement process.

The 102 students of the 30th batch of the two-year programme will be eligible for being awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) in April 2011.

Diverse mix of students

IRMA's graduating batch this year is a diverse mix of students, ranging from engineers, doctors, biotechnologists, economists, historians, veterinarians and agri-graduates, many of whom have a lot of work experience.

The 63 organisations participating in the process represented a wide range of sectors, organisational forms and orientations offering various challenging profiles to the participants.

Altogether 257 jobs were announced by 63 organisations for 99 participants in the campus placement. Twenty offers were made by Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the largest food marketing organisation in the country, which markets the Amul brand. Two participants have been recruited by Schneider Electric for its innovative initiative BipBop.

The “Essence of Life” programme of ITT Corporation has recruited two participants. ITC, ICICI, and other companies also made strong offers. The highest salary offered till now has been Rs 10.47 lakh per annum by the government advisory group of consulting firm Ernst & Young.
