The National Democratic Alliance's Bharat Bandh against price rise, particularly of petrol, evoked a good response on Thursday in Gujarat. Major cities and towns observed near-total bandh in the State. The bandh passed off peacefully and there were no reports of any untoward incident, officials said. Bandh activists, led by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party members, ensured that auto-rickshaws and taxies remained off the roads, although city buses and BRTS vehicles plied normally.Chemists' shops and hospitals, besides other essential services, functioned normally, reports from across the State said.
