The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry has requested the Election Commission of India to exclude banking personnel from election duty as officers and other employees of many banks are on the rolls of electoral duty for the coming State Assembly elections which is slated on April 13. If officers and other employees of banks are posted for electoral duty, it would jeopardise the financial transactions of the business sector of the State.
Customers would be put into undue hardships because April 14 and 15 are holidays due to Dr Ambedkar Jayanthi and Vishu respectively, it will be followed by weekend. In effect, the entire banking operations would come to a halt for six days which would paralyse the entire trade and business.Besides, many banks are now functioning with skeleton staff. Hence, the Chamber requested to kindly reconsider the decision and as far as possible exclude banking personnel from election duty in the forthcoming Assembly election.
