According to Kolkata-based Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry it was “surprising” that there was a “complete omission of West Bengal” from the “map of the New Railway”. Similarly, the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry too expressed its disappointment about the ongoing projects in Bengal not finding any mention. The Chamber hoped that the Minister will look into it.

The Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry too felt that the share of West Bengal was “minimal” when it came to introduction of new express trains, including high speed and premium ones or in the case of having new lines or doubling of existing lines.

“While giving reaction pertaining to new lines, doubling, (and) introduction of new express trains and also (in) the other services, the share of West Bengal is minimal.” According to Sajjan Bhajanka, President, Bharat Chamber of Commerce, there has been no overall development proposal for West Bengal. “There is no overall development proposal for West Bengal,” he was quoted according to a release.

The Oriental Chamber of Commerce too claimed that the State has been “largely ignored” in terms of new trains, introduction of new lines along with the absence of mention of ongoing Metro and Railway projects.
