The promised doubling of gas grid should be particularly beneficial to Eastern region states. The existing national gas grid bypasses Eastern region.
Though GAIL had previously announced two projects to connect Kolkata with Hazira Bijapur-Jagdishpur (HBJ) pipeline at Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh and the gas producing region at Kankinada in Andhra Pradesh, both the projects were later dropped.
