Dairy industry has welcomed the Budget announcement to extend Kisan Credit Card facility to animal husbandry and the creation of an infrastructure development fund for the sector.

Dairy farmers will gain from the plan to extend Kisan Credit Card facility to animal husbandry, said RG Chandramogan, Chairman and Managing Director, Hatsun Agro Products Ltd.

Referring to the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s announcement in the budget extending use of Kisan Credit Cards to fisheries and animal husbandry farmers to enable them meet their working capital needs, Chandramogan said this will give dairy farmers access to organised sector credit. Milk gives dairy farmers daily fund flow which middle men tend to exploit.

Extending KCC facility to animal husbandry is an acknowledgment that government has recognised animal husbandry as a farming activity, he said.

Sunil Reddy, Managing Director, Dodla Dairy, said the support announced to Animal Husbandry including extending the Kisan Credit Card facility and a corpus fund for Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund are significant announcements that will have a positive impact on the sector.

By allowing KCC facility for animal husbandry farmers, the government has formally acknowledged its presence under farming sector. Creating a focussed facility for infrastructure development for animal husbandry means the government is looking at enhancing quality and productivity of output. The attention is now at the farm level where it is most needed.

Domestic milk prices are in the top five globally. The focus on increasing quality and output will help the domestic industry become more competitive.
