Garima Singh The importance given to artificial intelligence (AI) in the Budget is a welcome step, but the government should also look into ways to create employment opportunities, as AI taking away jobs is also inevitable, say the youth. Over 150 MBA students who participated in the Post Budget Talk, conducted by BusinessLine and Sastra Deemed University and powered by FICCI, shared their views on what GenNext wants.

Students who heard Chief Guest Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Railways and Coal, and an eminent panel of speakers including Shaktikanta Das, Member, 15th Finance Commission and G-20 Sherpa, and Sanjeev Sanyal, Principal Economic Adviser to the Ministry of Finance, were vocal in their views.

“Budget 2018-19 was quite a holistic one which focused on a lot many things — including artificial intelligence — towards the growth of the economy. However, the emergence of AI will also lead to a downfall in job opportunities. So steps should be taken towards creating skilled employment and not just focusing on AI,” said Deepika Jain, who is pursuing PGDM (Finance) at BIMTECH in Greater Noida.
