Terming it a “pragmatic, wide-ranging, inclusive and comprehensive” budget, it seems to have dawned on the industrialists here that there was nothing much to cheer about in the 2016-17 Budget.

At a post-Budget analysis session organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Coimbatore zone at The Residency Towers here, speakers expressed the view that the government should have a broad road map to ensure implementation of the major proposals.

G Karthikeyan, a chartered accountant who moderated the panel discussion, stressed on the need for monitoring the process and ensuring implementation of the proposed schemes.

“Allocation for agriculture, rural welfare schemes and for infrastructural development alone is not enough. There should be a monitoring mechanism to review the progress and ensure implementation of the various project proposals,” he said.

While there were some relief measures for the textile sector such as relaxation in central excise duty, the sector, which was hoping for some relief on the export front, seemed disappointed. They also felt that the fund allocation for the textile industry was inadequate.

In a nutshell, the speakers “while appreciating the government’s intent” voiced concern about delivery and speed.
