Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, has avoided making specific commitments to the development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in budgetary allocations.

The Government was, however, "committed'' to the development of these two States and various departments were making proposals in this regard, was all he said in this Budget proposals presented on Thursday.

Though specific announcements on special status or budgetary allocations were not announced contrary to the expectations, both the States figured well in the new institutions.

Andhra Pradesh has been given three institutes, namely All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology (locations not announced) and a customs and central excise academy at Hindupur. A horticulture university would be set up in Telangana.
