The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the signing of the Paris Agreement adopted at the Conference of Parties held at Paris in December last year.

An official statement said: "The agreement is meant to enhance the implementation of the convention and recognises the principles of equity and common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities in the light of different national circumstances."

The Cabinet also gave its nod for amendments in the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill, 2015. The legislation will ensure utilisation of accumulated unspent amount available with the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority.

The Cabinet also approved the expansion of Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between India and Chile to enhance the trade and economic relations between the two countries.

“Under the proposed expanded PTA, 86 per cent of India's exports to Chile will get covered with concessions, which is likely to result in doubling of our exports in the near future,” the official statement added.

Other Cabinet approvals include transfer of land belonging to the Central Tobacco Research Institute (CTRI), Rajahmundry to the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Hyderabad as well as starting of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile , approval has also been given for transfer of 58.81 acres of surplus land of Farakka Barrage project to Border Security Force for the establishment of 04-Battalion Head Quarters of BSF.
