Delhi NCR (National Capital Region) topped in generating the highest number of jobs in the first quarter of 2013-14, according to industry chamber, ASSOCHAM.

Overall, a growth of over 27 per cent was seen as job generation reached 34,000 as compared to 29,000 jobs in the same period last year. A total of over 1,25,500 new jobs were generated across India during the first quarter of the current financial year, the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) said in a release.

Among the sectors, IT, ITeS and hardware together garnered the maximum share of over 39 per cent in the total new jobs generated across India. The banking and financial sector accounted for the second highest share of about 14 per cent, followed by academics, with over 11 per cent share.

Among tier-I cities, Delhi surpassed Kolkata (over 19 per cent), Chennai (declined by 21 per cent), Bangalore (7 per cent), Mumbai (declined by 27 per cent), Hyderabad (5 per cent), Gandhinagar (17per cent), Jaipur(16per cent), the chamber said.

In the tier-II category, Delhi NCR surpassed Pune (17 per cent), Indore (23 per cent) and Bhopal (12 per cent). In the tier-III category, Delhi NCR lead Meerut (21 per cent) and Ranchi (10 per cent), while Guwahati (48 per cent), Vadodara (37 per cent), Patna (29 per cent) and Amritsar (21 per cent) saw a dip in job generation.

Jobs in sectors like construction and engineering, real estate, telecom, manufacturing, auto, retail, infrastructure, hospitality, human resources (HR), fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) ranged between a meagre 2-4 per cent of all the new jobs generated in Delhi-NCR.
