Bulk of the employees quit jobs because of bad bosses rather than to seek better employment opportunities, says an Assocham survey.

“Workers are quitting their jobs and even switching to another career because they are fed-up with their current boss,” the survey said.

About 70 per cent of the respondents said that employees who quit their jobs complain about the indifferent attitude of their bosses or immediate supervisor.

About 2,500 executives participated in the survey. Majority of the participants said that a good work environment was much more important than the payment.

It also said that the bad bosses could also lead to employee health problems. “Around 62 per cent said that they have an abusive boss,” the chamber survey said.

“Careful selection of employees and managers can have a huge impact on the employee retention and turnover of the organisation,” Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said.

The survey said that most of respondents are moving because of management, supervisors and the general work environment of the company.

About 50 per cent said that working under a bad boss lead to decrease in the motivation level and productivity.

“Employee works under poor bosses are less likely to give the extra effort... work longer hours are generally less satisfied with their boss,” it added.

Rawat said that bosses should be motivators, innovators, leaders and also inspire the team members to achieve great things.
