The Indian economy could grow close to 8 per cent this fiscal, Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Finance, has said.

"I am with the Chief Economic Advisor (Subramanian) on this. We have also this fiscal substantially ramped up our public investments,"  Sinha told reporters on the sidelines of ACMA's 55th annual session here.

Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian on Wednesday said the Indian economy was not slowing down and was well on course to recording close to 8 per cent growth this fiscal.

Meanwhile, Sinha also said India has to be watchful of deflationary trends across the world.

Asked if RBI should cut policy rates sooner than its September 29 review meeting, Sinha said it was for RBI Governor Rajan to apply his judgement and take a call based on available data.
