Essar Steel Ltd, ITC Bangalore, Sterlite Copper and Chemplast Sanmar were among the nine companies that were given Water Awards by FICCI and HSBC India here on Tuesday.
The four companies were awarded for water use efficiency, while Tata Chemcials, Bajaj Hindusthan and Hindustan Unilever bagged awards for community initiatives in water.
Naina Lal Kidwai, Senior Vice-President, FICCI and Country Head, HSBC India, who heads FICCI’s Water Mission, said a survey by the mission indicated a growing concern of the Indian industry in terms of inadequate water availability and poor water quality.
Indian businesses see this as a major risk in their operations, she added.
The awards were given away by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, a release by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) said.
