Connoisseurs of food and epicureans in the city can look forward to a feast of variegated dishes and the tools and instruments for preparations on display with the five-day International Food and Hospitality Fair beginning Thursday.

Aahar 2011, the 26th edition of International Food and Hospitality Fair, an annual event, will be inaugurated by Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, at the sprawling trade fair complex at Pragati Maidan here. The Chairman & Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), Dr Subas Pani, will preside over the inaugural function while Mr Ashok Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries will be the guest of honour.     

 ‘Moving away from Commodity to Processing' will be the theme  of the fair while special focus will be on bakery and confectionery products, wine services and culinary show.

 Over 500 leading companies from India and abroad are participating in both segments of Aahar 2011. Overseas participation this year will be from Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Malaysia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the UK and the US.

Aahar 2011 will feature several seminars on subjects of interest to food and hospitality industry with titles such as, ‘Food Ingredients and Additives – Opportunities and Challenges', ‘Discovering Purchasing Horizons' and ‘Trends and Technology Bedding Products'.

 Product profile of Aahar 2011 covers processed foods, alcoholic beverages, machinery and equipment for food processing, packaging, milling, poultry farming, dairy and confectionery equipment, air -conditioning, refrigeration, cold storage systems, air and water pollution control, laundry, interior and housekeeping , hotel and kitchen, health & fitness as well as consultancy services and publications.

 Aahar is organised by the ITPO with active support from the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). Other collaborators include Association of Resource Companies for the Hospitality Industry of India (ARCHII), All India Food Processors Association (AIFPA) and Hotel & Restaurant Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (HOTREMAI), the ITPO said here.
