The import of coal would have been at nearly 380 million tonne for financial year 2017-2018 if not for the centre’s interventions according to Coal Minister, Piyush Goyal.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference to highlight the achievements over 5 years by his ministries, Goyal said that coal imports would have been around 1.5 times higher if not for the interventions initiated by the centre. He said that these imports have been annually limited to 200 million tonne.
Goyal also said that there has been an improvement in quality of domestic coal leading to better efficiency at power plants and lowered costs of power generation.
