Three major hassles, namely, lack of connectivity, hotel rooms and exhibition space are cited as inhibiting factors for not organising an expo such as ITMA Asia in India.

"Despite being the single largest buyer and exhibitor of textile machinery outside of China and Europe, India has been unable to host an expo of ITMA Asia magnitude because of these infrastructure bottlenecks. Else, we would love to organise an event of this magnitude here,'' Sooraj Dhawan, Director, India Representative Office, Falcon Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, said.

Stating this at a road show organised in the city to announce the forthcoming event at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre in China between June 16 and 20, Dhawan said over 1,500 exhibitors from 26 countries and regions would partake in the ITMA Asia +CITME 2014 event. Indian exhibitors alone account for 1,100 of these.

At least 25 exhibitors have managed to get space at a subsidised rate, he added.

According to Dhawan, the Tirupur knitwear cluster would have a big role to play at this event in view of the growing emergence of the knitting and hosiery sectors. "They will have an opportunity to meet global players,'' he said.

While the spinning machinery sector tops in space booking at 30 per cent, knitting and hosiery machinery manufacturers have booked 15 per cent of the space.

The exhibition spans over 1.50 lakh sq m in 13 halls and expects over 1.10 lakh trade visitors from 100 countries, he said.
