Bangalore Transport Corpn relaxes norms on renting commercial spaces

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) opened its ninth Traffic and Transit Management Centres (TTMC) at Yeshwanthpur.

According to Mr K R Srinivas, Managing Director – BMTC, the project cost is Rs 91.10 crore and is located at Yeshwanthpur circle. “The new TTMC building is spread over 43,173 square meters comprising two buildings. The main building has five floors and offers a range of facilities. The adjacent building is 20 level vehicle parking facility where about 400 cars and 200 two-wheelers can be accommodated.”

Of the total project cost the Centre through Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) has contributed 35 per cent of the cost, while 15 per cent is by the State government and the remaining 50 per cent through BMTC's own funds.

Talking about facilities being offered to commuters, Mr Srinivas said bus parking bay are in two levels (ground and first) eight bus platforms are there for streamlined commuting, BMTC and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) booking counters, food court, drinking facilities, ATMs, public facilities.

BMTC in Bangalore is operating 6100 buses with 79,000 trips and 13 lakh km to facilitate 48 lakh commuters daily. “Of the five floors, we are planning to rent out four upper floors to public and private sector companies to set up offices. At present we have got enquiries but we need to work out the modalities of accommodating them,” he said.

“Concerned at the poor response to other TTMCs, the BMTC has decided to relax some of its norms to rent out commercial spaces to attract more tenants,” he further added.

So far eight such TTMCs have been inaugurated and functioning in Bangalore city at Jayanagar, Kengeri, Bannerghatta, Koramangala, Domlur, KH Road-Shantinagar (Double road), Vijayanagar and Shivaji Nagar.
