It is boat ambulance now in Andhra Pradesh. Boat ambulances for villages adjacent to river Godavari and lakes Pulicat and Kolleru, which are not accessible by road will have these services soon.

The deployment of boat ambulance will be completed in 4-5 months. Similarly, in some tribal areas, the Government is planning to have special purpose vehicles to reach them with emergency medicare.

These efforts will further strengthen the emergency response services of 108 in the State. The 108 services has been very popular and has major impact in reaching timely care by transporting patients to nearby hospitals in the last several years.

After a thorough review of the 108 services, it was found that some of these villages could not be reached by road. Therefore, the idea to have boat ambulances has been put into practise. They can be accessed by 108 call centre as well.

Tribal Areas

In the case of tribal areas, jeep ambulances with special equipment will be pressed into service. It has been decided to procure and deploy 78 jeep ambulances in tribal areas. The process would be completed in 5 months.

Surveys have shown that there are 3500 villages in the State, where not even a single pregnant women is transported so far. These villages will now be provided assistance of nursing staff and ASHA workers by October, 2012, a press release quoting Mr Praveen Prakash, Commissioner, Health & Family Welfare said.
