CMA CGM, France's number one and the world's number three container line, plans to introduce a general freight increase from Indian subcontinent to Europe on the west bound leg of its EPIC (Europe-Pakistan-India Consortium) service, according to shipping industry sources.
The rate increase, to come into force from August 14, will be $200/TEU and $400/FEU, it is learnt.
The west bound leg of the service includes calls at Khor Fakkan, Jebel Ali, Port Qasim, Jawaharlal Nehru port, Mundra, Jeddah, Malta, Tangiers and Southampton.
EPIC is a fixed-day weekly service operated with eight vessels of the capacity ranging from 5,500 TEUs to 5782 TEUs.
The total duration of the voyage, which also includes eastbound calls starting from Southampton, to Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Le Havre, Piraeus and Khor Fakkan, is completed in 56 days, the sources add.
