The Salem division of Southern Railways has cautioned the public and road users against carrying heavy loads in lorries or other carriers to a height of about 4.67 metres and above since the electric overhead traction at all level crossings near Mercheri Road Railway Station have been energised.
The railways has in a release said that the 25 kV AC electric current passing through the overhead lines could result in risk of fire, damage to property and loss of life if electro-conduction materials are carried near the overhead lines or poles and has cautioned the public against carrying such material near the poles or overhead lines.
