There is unlikely to be any change in rail fares till the next Budget, which will be around July, the Railway Board Chairman Arunendra Kumar told reporters here on Wednesday.
He was replying to questions on whether the Railways would impose a festival surcharge or cess.
The country will see elections across five States over the next few months and the general elections next year.
Kumar said the Railways will try and explore options to run higher speed trains of 160-200 km per hour, which will not require significant incremental investments. Most of the Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains run at 130-120 kmph speed, while other trains run at 110 kmph.
