FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp and the world's largest express transportation company, has started a five-times-a-week service on the Guangzhou-Mumbai-Delhi-Guangzhou sector.

The flight will be operated with an Airbus A-310 aircraft and will provide about 160 tonnes of express cargo a week, said Mr Taarek Hinedi, Managing Director of India Operations, FedEx Express.

The flight will not only provide greater connectivity between Delhi and Asia, but is also likely to further boost the increasing trade relations between India and Asia-Pacific region, which is the largest region for trade contributing to around 27 per cent of the country's exports and 32 per cent of India's imports, a statement issued by FedEx Express states.

The flight will provide significant service enhancement for customers in India and other regions in Asia, including next-business day document service from Asia to select postal codes in Mumbai. “With five additional flights a week, Indian enterprises will have access to expansive cargo space, which will allow FedEx Express to carry heavyweight shipments within Asia,” a senior company official said.

The launch of the new service has seen FedEx make not only financial investments but also seen it hire more people, although officials declined to give out the exact amount which had been invested or number of people hired.

FedEx Express began serving India in 1984 through an alliance with a Global Service Participant, before entering the market independently as FedEx in 1997. It operates 31 weekly flights including 15 flights from Delhi, 11 from Mumbai and five from Bangalore.
