A fire broke out on the roof of a canteen at the domestic terminal of Chennai airport but there were no casualties, airport sources said.
The fire, triggered by a short circuit, started at around 12.30 p.m. and lasted for over three hours before firefighters extinguished it, sources said. The canteen was opened by the Airports Authority of India last week.
Meanwhile, the Home Secretary, Mr G.K. Pillai, arrived at the domestic terminal by an Air India flight at 3.45 p.m. He is scheduled to attend a function in IIT-Madras tomorrow.
