The movement and loading of goods trains were affected in several parts of Jharkhand and Orissa on Wednesday following agitation by different groups in support of various demands, according to railway sources.
In Jharkhand, the affected areas were Jhinkpani, Barjamda and Muree, all served by South Eastern Railway. The agitation, launched by Jharkhand Vikas Manch, was to press the demand for declaring Jharkhand a drought-hit State.
In Orissa, Jaruli, the major iron ore loading area, was hard hit by the agitation launched by a section of contractors' workers over payments problems. On an average, 18-19 rakes are loaded every day in the area.
When contacted, SER sources confirmed that agitation did affect its loading and transportation of goods trains in several parts of Orissa and Jhakhand.
