Mr Arun Sharma on Thursday took over as the Managing Director and Chairman-designate of Mumbai-based Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
The tenure of the Chairman of the ship classification body, Capt J.C. Anand, will in a few months. The IRS had no Managing Director.
At a later date, Mr Sharma will take over as the Executive President of the IRS and a new Managing Director will be appointed, it is learnt.
Mr Sharma was the Executive President of Kolkata-based India Steamship Company Ltd (ISS), originally a K K Birla Group shipping company but now a division of Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals, another K K Birla Group company. However, the demerger of ISS from Chambal has started.
Starting as a liner operator many years ago, ISS has recast its profile and has become a tanker operator.
