To ease the increasing traffic chaos in the national capital, the MCD will implement nine projects worth Rs 966.52 crore – ranging from road improvement to construction of six-lane flyovers – under the Jahawaral Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

The Engineering Department of MCD will take up the projects, Mr Jagdish Mamgain, Chairman of MCD Works Committee which cleared the proposals, said today.

Among the schemes are improvement and strengthening of roads of 47 km length in Okhla industrial area at a cost of Rs 148.61 crore and covering of Nauroji Nagar Nallah from Africa Avenue to Ring Road for providing parking-cum-road to avoid congestion of traffic at a cost of Rs 51.20 crore.

Other projects

It will also build a parking-cum-road covering 5.6 km of Nallah starting from Pushp Vihar passing through Sheikh Sarai, Chirag Delhi, Panchsheel Enclave, Greater Kailash-I and Andrews Ganj. The project will cost Rs 233 crore.

Improvement of roads of 60 ft and above by providing ready-mix concrete pavement in Rohini, Central, South, Najafgarh and Narela zones (Rs 165.10 crore), construction of 525-metre six-lane carriageway flyover on Upper Ridge Road and 802-metre six-lane divided underpass carriageway on Shankar Road (Rs 71.77 crore) are among the other projects.

Foot overbridges

To facilitate pedestrian movement at busy intersections on 80-100 ft roads, 20 foot overbridges will be constructed at different locations, costing Rs 17.50 crore.

A six-lane divided carriageway underpass will also be built from Vande Mataram Marg to Faiz Road with a surface rotary for traffic movements at a cost of Rs 55.44 crore.

Mamgain said that these schemes are mainly focused on smooth traffic management.

An amount of Rs 469.80 crore has also been sanctioned for taking forward the work of 14 multilevel underground unconventional parking sites at various locations.
