The flight path between India and Malaysia is getting increasing traffic. But the Malaysians want more.
It will be mutually beneficial for the Indian Government to be more open and ease air traffic norms, a senior Malaysia Airlines official said on Thursday.
The demand for more seats is not surprising as India is the number one growth market for the airline.
Passengers
While globally the overall passenger increase for Malaysia Airlines was 11 per cent for the first quarter of this year, India grew by 25 per cent for the same quarter as compared to last year for the airlines, he said.
“We service passengers to and from India which means that we are also bringing a lot of passengers into the country. That is good and it will help everybody to be more open,” insisted Mr Azahar Hamid, Regional Senior Vice-President, South Asia.
“We currently serve Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore and going forward we shall expand our presence in the country,” Mr Hamid said.
frequency
The airline is not only looking to increase frequency of flights to the existing five destinations, plans are also afoot to operate twice a day to Delhi instead once a day at present, he added.
The carrier also plans to leverage its existing collaboration with Jet Airways to expand the market.
The company is targeting a 20 per cent year on year increase from the Indian market in 2011 over the previous year.
Globally, the company is targeting a growth of seven per cent year on year, he added.
