The Regional Transport Office in Mangalore has set a revenue collection target of Rs 101 crore for 2011-12, according to Mr C. Mallikarjuna, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Mangalore.
In an interaction with presspersons here on Saturday, he said the Mangalore office collected revenue of Rs 94 crore during 2010-11, against a target of Rs 80 crore.
Following this, the revenue collection target for this fiscal has been fixed at Rs 101 crore.
Vehicle registration
Giving details about the number of vehicles registered under Mangalore office, he said two lakh two-wheelers, 63,075 light motor vehicles and 60,660 transport vehicles have been registered till March 31.
Mr Mallikarjuna said strict action will be taken against those vehicle owners who register their vehicles in areas like Pondicherry and use such vehicles in Mangalore. By registering in those areas, these vehicle owners are denying the tax amount due for the Karnataka Government. He asked owners of such vehicles to pay the tax by September.
Asked about the number of such vehicles, he said around 70-80 such high-end vehicles ply in Mangalore.
Mr Mallikarjuna said plans are also there to set up an automated driving track in Mangalore. Around four acres of land is required for this purpose, he added.
