The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has invited bids worth Rs 115 crore for the development of infrastructure and creation of residential layout in one of the terminal stations of the mega Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project.

While the Metro Rail depot works are going on at a brisk pace, the financial bids for the proposed residential lay out bids of this tender are scheduled for opening on December 19. According to the arrangement, the development cost will be shared by HMDA, metro rail authorities and Hyderabad Metro Water Works wings according to their respective land allotments.

Following directions by the Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, several developmental activities near Musi river in Uppal area have been initiated.

“Rail depot works are going on at a brisk pace. Further, in coordination with HMDA and GHMC, a massive tree plantation programme will be undertaken by HMR in the new residential lay out, Metro Rail depot and casting yards and in the buffer zone along Musi river,” according to Mr N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director of HMRL.

The statement said the Government has agreed to the representations of Uppal land owners where Metro Rail depot is located and renamed the Nagole depot on Metro Rail corridor-III as Uppal Metro Rail depot and notification issued. The contentious issue of acquisition of grass lands near Musi at Uppal Bhagat and Ramanthapur Bhagat villages was earlier resolved by Government by issuing a GO to allot 1000 sq yards of developed plot for every acre of land acquired by HMDA for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project (104 acres) and for HMWSSB (150 acres).

When the farmers were initially agitating against the land acquisition, they were assured that their demands would be positively considered by the Government. Based on this assurance, most of the land owners willingly parted with their lands for the depot and other developmental activities undertaken by the Government agencies.
