In an effort to help traffic police to control road rage and menace, handset maker Nokia India on Tuesday said it had joined hands with Gurgaon traffic police to launch a traffic management project called 3rdEYE in the city.

Denave, a technology enabler, has created software called ‘Tselina' that will be integrated with Nokia E5 to capture and report traffic rule violators in the city, Nokia said.

In reply to a question whether the partnership was exclusive, Joint Commissioner of Gurgaon Police, Mr Alok Mittal, said, “We are open to partner each and every technology provider or handset maker which is ready to help us in our drive to make this city safe“.

The project, aimed to leverage technology as an enabler to curb traffic disruption in the city, will be implemented across the East, West and Highway traffic zones in its first phase, Nokia India said.

Up to 300 traffic police personnel stationed at different locations in the city will be equipped with the technology to monitor traffic violations.

Out of 300, 50 traffic marshals have already been given a Nokia E5 each which is installed with the software Tselina that will allow them to capture photo evidence of the traffic violation including vehicle with the surroundings, licence plate and the driver's face if possible.

The police or public can retrieve the photograph at a later stage and use them as evidence to penalise offenders.

“3rdEYE runs on Nokia E5 handsets. The mobile handset running the software will enable traffic marshals to record an offence and upload it real time. The application, developed by Denave, is extremely easy to use,” Nokia India Director, Enterprise Sales, Mr Suresh Vedula, said.

The project has been initiated by Millennium City Welfare Society, a Nasscom-backed industry association leveraging technology, research and management practices to improving quality of work life in Gurgaon.
