The Banihal Quazigund section of the Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail line is to be commissioned in April-May, 2013, according to the new deadline set by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

This was among the various decisions taken at a meeting in the PMO on Thursday to step up efforts to speed up infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting, chaired by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, and attended by the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir and Secretaries of the Central Ministries concerned, reviewed the progress of various projects covering the railways, power, civil aviation, food processing, tourism and textiles, a PMO release said.

It was also decided that power transmission and distribution network strengthening works in J&K would be completed by March 2014. The Chutak hydel project is to be fully commissioned by October 2013 and the Nimoo-Bazgo hydel project is to be completed by December 2013.

“Secretaries of the Union Government have been asked to intensively monitor these projects,” the release added.
