HPCL's Visakha refinery, commissioned the single point mooring facility at the Visakhapatnam port to receive the very large cargo carriers (VLCCs), according to a press release.
The first vessel, Gandhar, was received at the SPM and the crude was transferred to refinery's storage tanks using the facility.
Telemetry system
The facility, adds the release, is located 4.2 km from the Dolphin's Nose and the crude is carried through a pipeline laid subsea and connected to the existing crude pipeline.
The SPM facility is equipped with advanced technology such as telemetry system necessary for the safe operation of the tanker at the SPM.
