The South Eastern Railway has emerged top among all zonal railways in achieving fuel economy, according to the latest review by the Railway Board.
The SER has recorded the maximum 13.15 per cent extra savings on the basis of specific fuel consumption, followed by West Central Railway (7.89 per cent), which came second and North-East Frontier Railway (5.95 per cent), the third.
The fuel economy was achieved though better maintenance of diesel locomotives, better handling of locomotives and reduction in wastage, according to Rail Board sources.
