South Western Railway (SWR) plans to take up 33 km of new line, 48 km of gauge conversion and 39 km of track doubling this financial year.

Addressing the 11th Zonal Railway Users' Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) of South Western Railways (SWR) held at Hubli Mr Kuldeep Chaturvedi, General Manager, SWR said “Special thrust this year will be to improve infrastructure and line capacity on various section of SWR. Also passenger amenities at Hubli, Bangalore stations, commuter train services in Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli areas will be improved.”

“The work on 18 km of new railway line between Sakrayapatna-Kanivehalli has been completed. Gauge Conversion of Shimoga Town-Talguppa has been completed with commissioning of last patch of Anandapuram-Talguppa section at Sagar Railway Station on July 10. The double line between Arsikere-Devanur has also been commissioned,” he added.

20 members out of 33 members comprising members of chambers of commerce of Hubli, Mysore and Bangalore, passenger associations, consumer protection organisations, representatives of the three divisions of Bangalore, Mysore and Hubli, nominated members of Union ministers and Railway Board, attended the meeting.

The ZRUCC also discussed various issues regarding such as introduction of more trains on the Shimoga-Talguppa full-fledged BG new line, introduction of Intercity Express between Bangalore and Mysore, additional train services between Bangalore and Bangarpet.

Members have also requested to extend Yesvantpur-Bagalkot Basava Express to Hubli, Solapur-Gadag Passenger train to Hubli, introduction of direct train from Hubli to Pune/Mumbai, extension of Solapur-Hyderabad Falaknuma Express (via Gadag) to Hubli, so that it would be convenient to the passengers bound for Gulbarga, introduce a new morning train from Hubli to Pandarapur via Gadag, Bagalkot and Solapur.

Passenger train introduction between Hubli-Guntakal-Hubli, Chennai-Shirdi-Chennai Train to run via Yesvantpur, Guntakal and Solapur introduce a direct train between Hubli and Gulbarga via Gadag, Hospet and Guntakal, increase of emergency quota for few more trains.

Requests were made at the meet to increase reservation quota by Hyderabad-Kolhapur-Hyderabad (Train Nos 17003/17004), as the major quota of reservation at present has been allotted to Kolhapur-Dharwad but majority of people are traveling from Hubli, Hospet, Bellary, so that the people of this section will be benefited.

Re-modeling work at all stations should be expedited, increase of local passenger train coaches from 08 to 12, extension of Train No. 6506 Bangalore-Gandhidham train to New Bhuj, and also members requested the administration to change the timings of Basava Express between Bagalkot and Bangalore stations and also requested to attach one additional 3 tier-AC/2-tier AC coach to Basava Express.

Attachment of one more AC coach for Train No. 06948 Hubli-Vasco Link Express because of heavy demand, work of construction of Commercial Complex at Davanageri to be expedited, provision of CCTV surveillance system at Gadag are some of the issues proposed by the members.
