The low-cost carrier SpiceJet will connect tier II and tier III destinations in central India such as Indore, Bhopal and Aurangabad with Hyderabad in the next one week.
Speaking to presspersons during the launch of the Mangalore-Hyderabad flight here on Friday, Mr Samyukth Sridharan, Chief Commercial Officer of SpiceJet Ltd, said that the airline will start Hyderabad-Aurangabad operations from October 1.
The airline will start operation on Hyderabad-Indore and Hyderabad-Bhopal routes from October 3. No airline had ever flown on Aurangabad-Hyderabad route, he said.
Non-tradional route
Stating that the airline is exploring non-traditional routes, Mr Sridharan said it is easy to start of with traditional routes where other carriers are flying. “It is harder to start non-traditional routes. That is what we are trying to do,” he said.
Giving the example of Mangalore-Hyderabad route, he said there was no data on the number of air travellers going from Mangalore to Hyderabad, as nobody had flown that sector. The airline did research before launching this sector, he said.
Highlighting the potential on this sector, he said bookings are extremely encouraging for the sector.
“Mangalore-Hyderabad loads are encouraging. Apart from the promotional fare, people are buying seats on the last day also. This sector would fly about 80-90 per cent of the capacity for the first couple of months,” he said.
9 destinations
Mr Sridharan said the airline added nine new domestic destinations in the last 12 days. SpiceJet will have presence in 30 domestic destinations in the next one month, he said, adding that Mangalore is the 25th domestic destination in the country.
Mangalore-chennai
Announcing a direct flight between Mangalore and Chennai from November 9, he said the flight would leave Chennai at 1.25 p.m. and reach Mangalore at 3 p.m. It will depart Mangalore at 3.30 p.m. and reach Chennai at 5.05 p.m.
Bookings on the Mangalore-Chennai sector has commenced with an inaugural fare of Rs 1,499, he added.
