The Kolkata airport is all set to turn a new leaf today (July 15).

The authorities have lined up a trial run of the arrival lounge of its new integrated terminal.

Trial runs for departure facilities and international flight operations including customs and immigrations set-up are likely to be taken up soon.

According to the regional airport director, Mr B. P. Sharma, budget carrier Indigo has been requested to use the new lounges for one of its flight. The flight is expected to arrive around 12 noon tomorrow from Mumbai.

“We have requested IndiGo to bring in its passengers through the arrival lounge of the new building. We are making the necessary arrangements to ensure that there is a smooth transition of passengers,” Mr Sharma told Business Line .

The shift to modernised facilities at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport might happen by year end.

No aerobridges

He, however, added that passengers will not be able to use an aerobridge to reach the lounge. The new terminal is supposed to have 18 of them.

Aerobridges have yet to arrive, officials said.

Passengers will be using the new baggage carousel. The terminal will have 10 such carousels.

Arrangements

Captain Sarvesh Gupta, chairman of the Airport Operating Committee (AOC) – a body of 16 private airlines operating from the airport – said arrangements for providing parking facilities for private vehicles and putting in place the public transport system are being carried out.

“We have also arranged for transfer facilities for visitors who, accidentally, land up at the old building,” Mr Gupta said.
