The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industry has suggested that only the fares for long distance journey for all classes be raised for improving the earnings of the railways.

In a letter addressed to Union Railway Minister, Mr.Dinesh Trivedi, chamber secretary, Mr.P.T.K.A.Balasubramanian said the railway fare has not been increased in the last decade despite an increase in the prices and charges of utilities all around and that if the railway ministry contemplated an increase in passenger fares, as has been doing round to the tune of 10% to 15%, the same must be effected only with reference to long distance journey that has remained on the lower side. However, the fare should not be raised for a distance of 500 kms in express trains and 150 kms in passenger trains. The same concession must be extended to I class, 2 tier A/C and 3 tire A/C also , he added.
